Moth Night, Thursday July 25

Satin moth, Ladd Marsh

Satin moth, Ladd Marsh

Plans for our first Moth Night on the marsh are taking shape.  Due to darkness not arriving until approximately 9:00 PM, we invite participants to arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 PM at the Tule Lake public access area on Peach Road.  Before dark, we will set up our UV lights and sheets for moth viewing.  When lighting conditions allow, as we wait for moths to appear, Eastern Oregon University biologist Dr. Karen Antell will present a slide show about moths and their interesting biology.  Then, we’ll watch our lights and white sheets to see what emerges from the marshes !  We’ll stick around as long as the mothing is good, or until we get sleepy.

Come dressed for the outdoors, with flashlight or headlamp, folding chair, and camera (optional).  Click on “About Ladd Marsh” for maps and more information about the Tule Lake area.  This is an official National Moth Week event and we will share our photographs with other participating groups across North America.  Help us show everyone what a special place Ladd Marsh is !
