Ladd Marsh provides nesting habitat for about 15 pairs of Greater Sandhill Cranes each spring. Ladd Marsh staff have been banding cranes since 2007, and these birds have provided valuable information about crane behavior. This week, ODFW staff caught and banded two young cranes. Perhaps these banded birds will be spotted by observers along their southward migration to their winter range and help to increase our understanding of their habitat needs, both on Ladd Marsh and elsewhere.
