Time for some Spring Cleaning!

Join the Friends for our annual Bird Box Clean-up Day, Saturday, March 13:

The annual Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area (LMWA) and Friends of Ladd Marsh (FOLM) sponsored bird box clean-up for Ladd Marsh is scheduled for March 13, 9:00 am meeting at the LMWA Headquarters at 59116 Pierce Road. Due to Covid-19 pandemic protocols, there will be some changes in the format for this year’s event. There is no kick-off meeting inside the HQ building. Participants will stay in their own vehicles and will be handed route and box data. Completed forms will be dropped off back at the HQ when work is completed. There is no sharing of tools or materials, so each participant is encouraged to bring their own gloves, masks, garbage bags (if you find litter you want to remove), paint scrapers (good for cleaning debris from boxes), screwdrivers (Phillip heads most frequently used); hammers and cordless drills are very handy. Family/personal pod groupings only encouraged. Please leave pets at home or make other arrangements. The weather is predicted to be sunny and 53 degrees F.

Directions to Ladd Marsh HQ:

  • From La Grande, take the Union Highway (203) to Pierce Rd (B&K Auto Salvage). Turn right (south) on Pierce. Continue for approximately 1 ¼ mile to HQ on the right.
  • From Union, turn left on Pierce Rd and follow above directions.
  • HQ can be reached from I-84: Take exit 268 (Foothill Rd) then turn east. At the “T” with Pierce Rd, turn left (north). Continue about 1 1/2 mile to HQ on the left.

2021 Ladd Marsh Bird Festival Planning

Dear Friends and Followers,

Friends of Ladd Marsh (FOLM) in partnership with the Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) are in the planning stages of the annual Ladd Marsh Bird Festival. With Covid 19 still present, this will not be our normal event. As we finalize plans, we will release details of the event.

What we know now is that Ladd Marsh will be open for birding and we are planning to have staffed field stations. For now, we want to get the word out to save the date May 15-16 and please stay tuned for details as they are developed!

Stay Safe and happy Birding!

Memorial Donations

We thank the family and friends of William (Bill) Whitaker and Kenneth L. Gray for their generous donations to the Friends of Ladd Marsh in memoriam of their loved ones.

In their honor, we will use these funds to further our work of enhancing awareness, understanding, and enjoyment of our natural ecosystems in and around Ladd Marsh.
