The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Friends of
Ladd Marsh have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Ladd Marsh Bird
Festival. ODFW has cancelled all of its outdoor education events through May 31
and that includes the Bird Festival. We have taken this step to protect our
participants, volunteers, staff and others and in compliance with the Governor’s
Executive Order regarding group gatherings and social distancing.
We will be back next year! So, save the date – the 15th
Ladd Marsh Bird Festival will be May 14 – 16, 2021.
Friends of Ladd Marsh:
As I am sure most of you expected, we are cancelling the FOLM First Saturday Bird Walk for April. While being outside birding is an excellent way to socially distance, doing it in groups negates the benefits and may put people at risk. I encourage you, if you can, to bird in your yards or find a quiet, uncrowded place to go birding.
We will take these measures one month at a time – I will let
you know if we have to cancel the May bird walk as well. I choose to remain
hopeful for a relatively speedy end to this difficult time.
Stay safe, stay healthy,
As you should be aware, many public events are being cancelled in response to the novel corona virus and the illness it causes, COVID19. We do not know how this will progress, nor how it will affect our area. We also don’t know what the situation will look like in May, at the time of the Bird Festival. Right now, things are moving fast but we hope they will settle down by then. Given all that, we are watching carefully as this unfolds. If there is a need to cancel the Bird Festival, we will try to make that decision prior to opening registration April 15. As we get closer to that date, please watch this page for more information. We appreciate everyone’s patience and we wish you all good health.
