Memorial Gifts to Friends of Ladd Marsh
The Ladd Marsh Bird Festival is nearly here! Things kick off with a social event at the Union County Senior Center on Cove Avenue in La Grande at 6:00 pm, Friday, May 13th. If you have already registered for the Festival and a field trip, you can pick up your packet Friday night. If you are a late comer, join us to register and to listen to music (appropriately birdy), and enjoy some snacks and conversations.
Registration continues at a white trailer parked at the Tule Lake Auto Tour area on Peach Road, between 6:00am and 12:00 noon on Saturday morning. Stop by the trailer to register and pick up your information packet and a Ladd Marsh Bird Festival Passport. Expert birders will be available to help identify birds at six Birding Stations around the marsh until noon on Saturday.

We look forward to seeing you on the marsh!
First Saturday Bird Walks led by wildlife biologist Michael Mahoney continue to be popular. A hardy crew set out in search of hawks, Redpolls and other winter birds on the first cold Saturday morning of 2022.
Mark your calendars – the annual Ladd Marsh Bird Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16! In order to have a fun and safe festival for all, please note the instructions below, and scroll down for a link to a new Google map of festival event sites. We look forward to seeing you on the marsh!
- There will be no Friday evening gathering this year. Instead, participants should arrive at the Tule Lake Area between 6:00am and noon on Saturday in order to register and pick up a packet that includes your passport for access to the Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area. Limited Friends of Ladd Marsh merchandise will be available for sale.
- Due to Covid restrictions, we will not be holding field trips this year. There also will not be food concessions, children’s activities, or the usual Blue Mountain Wildlife presentation.
- Expert birders will be available at six Birding Stations from 6:00am-noon Saturday to assist with locating and identifying birds. Please note that two of the usual birding stations have been moved to new locations this year. See map below.
- We ask everyone to protect yourselves, our volunteers, and other participants by following all Covid-19 safety precautions, including masking around others and avoiding sharing equipment outside your group. We will not provide binoculars, spotting scopes or other shared equipment at the birding stations.
