Volunteers needed for Golden Eagle Monitoring

Jan 25, 2026 | News, Things to do

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is currently recruiting volunteers for this coming spring and summer to resurvey Frank Isaacs, golden eagle nest locations in Union, Umatilla, Wallowa, and Baker counties. The data will be included in Scott Quigley’s MS thesis. Scott is exploring long term trends in golden eagle nest occupancy and chick survival across Oregon.

Nest surveys will start up in early March and all active nests will be resurveyed throughout the spring and summer.  There will be a quick training session next month to go over the FieldMaps form and eaglet aging; training date TBD. ODFW is flexible on the number of hours volunteers put in this summer — no matter what, it’s a great opportunity for folks that like being outside and enjoy birding!
